Air source heat pumps

Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps are a type of renewable energy technology that provide many cost and energy efficiency benefits.

Air Source Heat Pumps

What is an air source heat pump?

An air source heat pump is a low-carbon way of heating your home. Air source heat pumps use the same type of technology that keeps your fridge cold, but in reverse. They absorb air from outside the home and using a refrigerated compression method to increase the temperature inside your home.

Air source heat pumps look similar to air-conditioning units. Their size depends on how much heat they'll need to generate for your home - the more heat, the bigger the heat pump.

Benefits

Energy efficiency rating of around 300-400%.

Green heating, low carbon, good for the environment.

Can be fitted in almost all existing homes in the UK

Total control of Heat available via smart controls

Future proofed technologies, smart investment

Works in temperatures as low as -20 degrees

Can be used for heating and cooling

Low maintenance

Long lifespan, if maintained well could last up to 20 years, exceptional reliability.

Safer than gas boilers (no combustion)

Common Misconceptions

Heat pumps are too expensive

The initial cost to have an air source system fitted is more expensive than that of conventional heating systems BUT with the current & future incentives provided by the government it could end up costing you LESS in the end than having a boiler replaced AND you have gone Low carbon.

Heat pumps are not efficient in cold winters

With some great advancements in technology most modern heat pumps will have relatively the same efficiency rating (the same as a boiler) at -5 degrees as they do at +25 degrees, and they are still even able to produce heat down to as low as -25 degrees!

An air source heat pump will give you less heat than a traditional boiler

NOT TRUE, with the latest Heat pump tech you have options for a high temperature and a low temperature Heat pump, the basis of the low temperature heat pump is around energy efficiency and rather than having the heating on or off (current gas systems) it is designed to keep a home at a flexible constant temperature all day long, each room can have different desired temps dictated by you the customer. A High temp heat pump will of course have slightly lower efficiency but has the capabilities to output up to 70 degrees to your central heating, this is sometimes HOTTER than your currently set temps for your gas boiler.

Heat pumps are money wasters

Providing that your home is sufficiently efficient, and your Heat pump is rated AND installed correctly there’s a potential to save around 30% on energy bills, remember there will be no gas or oil bills to pay! Oh, and you’re doing your bit for the environment.

Heat Pumps are noisy

Nope, about as noisy as a fridge, should not be heard unless you are within a close to distance to the Heat pump. 60db on average (equivalent of a conversation).

Heat pumps are Ugly

The truth is the older units were not much to look at, now with manufacturers investing heavily and listening to their customers, quite a few units are aesthetically pleasing, coming in a range of colours and some even being able to be camouflaged to match the colour of the wall it sits in front of.

Heat pumps can only be used for heating

Nonsense, an ‘Air to water’ heat pump system is more than capable of providing more than enough hot water to your home at a temperature you are used to.

"To have the biggest benefit for energy efficiency with a heat pump a ‘fabric first’ approach is going to be very beneficial ."

To have the biggest benefit for energy efficiency with a heat pump a ‘fabric first’ approach is going to be very beneficial, this means your loft insulation, cavity wall, windows, EPC etc should be as highly rated as possible to reap the many benefits an air source heat pump provides, this is also a service we can provide to ‘future proof’ your home.

Installation

A site survey will be carried out where our expert engineers will calculate the heat loss of your home and size your heat pump accordingly. Once agreed a detailed drawings and schematics of your new system, that are completely unique to you, will be prepared and passed over for review.

Your average installation will include:

  • Safe removal and decommissioning of your old fossil fuel boiler,
  • A thorough cleaning of your system to ensure the water in your system is clean and ready for your new appliance,
  • A skilfully executed installation of all new hydraulics and controls and filters.
  • Once installed we will commission and test thoroughly to ensure it is working at optimum efficiency.

We operate with the highest of values and offer alongside 10-year manufacturer’s warranty a 12-month workmanship warranty, so your mind is at ease and your aftercare is sorted.

With the climate changing and the Government committing to Net zero targets for the UK, the end of our fossil fuel gas boilers is in sight and we look forward to new alternatives for heating our homes. There are many solutions and air source heat pumps is one of the brightest amongst them, they are a proven technology, been used in very similar climates around Europe for decades (Germany now has more heat pumps than gas boilers) in fact we are pretty behind with the technology and have become reliant on our fossil fuel supplies. With the Government incentivising the replacement of fossil fuel heating systems in the UK it might not work out quite as expensive as you may have been lead to believe.

Air source is a clean green solution, as well as heavily efficient (300-400%) so for every 1Kw of electricity that it uses, it produces 3-4Kw of heat, that’s a lot of bang for your buck!

"At 24 eco we use the latest in heat pump technologies to heat your home, each property is different and subject to survey so once we have carried out a detailed heat loss survey (which is yours to keep) and agreed to go to the next step, your system will be expertly designed with detailed schematics and will be a one of one system, catered for exactly what your property requires.

With ultra-modern controls you can monitor your COP ( co efficient of performance) all year round, check your usage and set programs that fit your lifestyle."
